Raiders win doubles but drop match to No. 22 Tulane

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Despite displaying their strength in doubles, Middle Tennessee fell to 11-3 on the season after a 5-2 loss to No. 22 Tulane at the Adams Tennis Complex.
Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore and Miguel Negre Fernandez got the match started with a 6-1 win over the No. 50-ranked doubles combo of Tyler Schick and Luis Erlenbusch. Tom Moonen and Chris Edge followed at the top spot in the doubles lineup for a 6-2 win, their second doubles victory of the week.
Tulane clinched the win by claiming singles matches in straight sets on the first four courts to finish. Gian Issa fought hard at No. 5 in the second set, but started out the third month of the season with his first loss of the year, 6-1, 6-4. Moonen fell to the No. 24-ranked singles player, Constantin Schmitz, and the Green Wave got a straight-set win at No. 2 to make the score 3-0.
The Green Wave won at No. 3 to add to their score. After the match was clinched, Luis Morillo Diaz forced his match at No. 6 to a third set match-tiebreak, but Tulane also claimed that point.
Negre wrapped up the scoring with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 win at No. 4 over Schick, who was ranked No. 95 in singles heading into the match.
The Blue Raiders will hit the road for a match against North Florida on Thursday before returning to the ATC for the Conference USA Pod on March 16-18 against No. 38 Old Dominion, Charlotte and Florida Atlantic.
