COLLEGE STATION, Texas—The Middle Tennessee cross country teams showed strong performances at the Arturo Barrios Invitational Saturday morning in College Station despite the tough field. The men came out on top, finishing first for the fourth straight meet this season, and the women's team finished second out of 28 total teams.
"We had fun today," said head coach Kieth Vroman. "We tried a different race strategy for both teams to see how things will work for the championships in the next few weeks."
The men managed to claim another first place title, finishing with a total time of 1:59:06.78 and 41 points, 124 points better than host Texas A&M in second place. The team was led once again by the unstoppable duo, Jacob Choge and Kigen Chemadi who placed first and second overall. Hillary Kimaiyo also finished in the Top 5, finishing fifth overall, and Lebo Mosito finished 10th with a time of 24:00.7.
The women finished second with a time of 1:44:37.09 and 81 points, only six points behind CBU. The team was led by Eusila Chepkemei for the second meet in a row, who finished second overall. Joice Jebor also finished Top 5, coming in at fourth place. Freshman Mercy Chepkurui finished 18th overall with a time of 21:04.5 for her second collegiate meet.
"It was exciting to see the women competing for the win at a big race like this," Vroman said. "Now, we will focus on the conference championships in a couple of weeks after having a great regular season."
