Round 2 Results
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Middle Tennessee Women's Golf started the day off strong at San Antonio Country Club but faltered in round two to sit in the middle of the pack thru 36 holes at 35-over par (296-315=611).
The Blue Raiders held the second spot in the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational's field of nine after 18 holes with an opening round of 8-over par 296 that left them four strokes back of host UTSA.
Round two was a far different story, however, as MT posted a 27-over par 315 that was the second highest round of the afternoon and fourth highest of the day and dropped them into a tie for fifth alongside Houston Baptist (+35).
"We had a really good start this morning, but just didn't manage the course well in the afternoon," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "Sophie (Burks) put together a couple of solid rounds despite only one birdie, but had a lot of chances. We'll have to find some consistency to improve our team and that will come over time with the more rounds we play."
Middle Tennessee remains in striking distance of a number of teams including C-USA foe Old Dominion (+29), who is the highest ranked team in the field.
Blue Raider junior Sophie Burks takes the top spot for the team after day one, currently in a tie for sixth place at 4-over par (148) after solid rounds of 1-over 73 and 3-over 75.
Fellow junior Savannah Quick carded the top Blue Raider round of the day, posting an even par 72 in the morning ahead of a tough afternoon round that leaves her 11-over par (72-83=155).
Freshman Taylor Edlin matched Quick at 11-over par (78-77=155) while sophomore Madison Smith is one stroke back of the duo at 12-over par (73-83=156).
Junior Caroline Caudill finished day one at 16-over par (80-80=160) thru 36 holes.
The Blue Raiders are back at it on Wednesday, closing out the tournament with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start alongside Old Dominion and Houston Baptist in the final round.
