Blue Raiders Claim Conference Win at Jacksonville State
10/22/2023 5:12:00 PM | Women's Soccer
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Middle Tennessee Soccer never looked back.
A 5' Manon Lebargy corner kick goal set the tone for a total team effort Sunday at Jacksonville State. And two second half goals set up the 3-0 Conference USA road win at Jax State Soccer Complex.
After taking the 1-0 lead into the locker room, the Blue Raiders kept their foot on the accelerator, with a 55' free kick finish from Eleanor Gough and another tally in the 60' by Cambell Kivisto.
Lauren Spaanstra had two assists, both on set piece deliveries. Emma Pettersen then logged her first career assist on Kivisto's goal.
MTSU outshot the Gamecocks 13-8 and won the shot on goal battle 6-4.
Rhoden's Roundup
"We managed the game very well. The big thing for us was to not let them get in a rhythm, and to try and maintain possession for as long as we could. I think we did that very well, and I don't think we were in any danger as far as them attacking us because we kept good possession of the ball," said head coach Aston Rhoden.
Player Perspective – Cambell Kivisto
"It feels very good to get this conference win. This is what we've been fighting for. We proved that we wanted to get a win. It felt great to get a goal today, as it had been a while for me since I've scored. Just a very fun game to play today and I'm glad we got the win," said Kivisto.
By the Numbers
2: Spaanstra had her second multi-assist game of the year and the third across her career.
7: Lebargy's goal was her seventh of the year, stretching her team-high mark.
3: Hannah Murphy's three shots were both a game-high and career-high for the freshman.
4: Goalkeeper Hannah Suder had her fourth shutout of the season and notched four saves Sunday afternoon. Suder's 65 total saves this year lead CUSA.
