DENTON, Texas – Middle Tennessee softball (33-17, 12-10 C-USA) lost game two at North Texas (32-20, 16-7) 4-1 at Lovelace Stadium today.
The Blue Raiders got their offense rolling earlier in the game today with a walk by Ava Tepe in the first inning and a base-hit in the second from Shelby Sargent. However, North Texas scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second. Starting pitcher McKenzie Wagoner hit a solo home run to help herself in the circle and lead to the series clinching win. The Mean Green hit two home runs today which proved to be the difference in the game as the Blue Raiders outhit North Texas four hits to three.
MTSU tried to build on the momentum from Sargent's catch over the wall in the third inning by getting two runners on in the top of the fourth. The Blue Raiders were unable to capitalize and stranded two runners on-base.
North Texas regained momentum in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run by freshman Tatum Sparks for just her second of the season. The Blue Raiders responded in the top of fifth with a sacrifice fly from Laura Mealer to score Amaya Harris after a leadoff double. Mealer got her 46th RBI of the season and leads C-USA.
A bunt single from North Texas led to another run in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to three runs heading into the top of the seventh.
