Blue Raiders Defeat Cleveland State on Sunday
9/3/2023 4:22:00 PM | Women's Soccer
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Soccer added a pair of insurance goals down the stretch Sunday against the Cleveland State Vikings to win 3-0 at Dean A. Hayes Track & Soccer Stadium.
After going into the break up 1-0 thanks to a 21' goal from Idun Kvalle, the Blue Raiders scored twice in under two minutes late to pull away.
Manon Lebargy had her third goal in two matches when she connected from distance in the 80' off an assist from Elizabeth Slavinsky.
Slavinsky would have her own moment in the 82', scoring on a header off a Jessica Oliveras corner kick. The assist was Oliveras' first as a Blue Raider.
MTSU moves to 3-2-1 with the win.
Rhoden's Roundup
"It's a true testament to the belief the group has in themselves and in the way we play. We were looking for a positive response after what I thought was a bad loss at home against Lipscomb on Thursday. I think that Cleveland State is certainly a good team, anybody who watched the match saw that. So it was good for us to continue to attack until we got what we wanted," said head coach Aston Rhoden.
Player Perspective – Elizabeth Slavinsky
On the goal scored: "We've been practicing those corners every week, so to finally see one go in the back of the net is awesome. I'm just proud of everyone's effort to keep pushing all the way though. It was a team effort today," said Slavinsky.
By the Numbers
16: MTSU outshot the Vikings 16-10, and had eight shots on goal while allowing just three. The Raiders' 16 total shots matches a season-high.
0: Cleveland State had zero corners on the afternoon.
2: Lebargy is the second Blue Raider to score in consecutive matches this season, with Cambell Kivisto being the other after scoring in the opening two fixtures.
3: Slavinsky's three points Sunday are the most for a Blue Raider in a match since Kivisto scored and had an assist against Belmont on August 20.
5: Emma Pettersen's five shots were a match-high.
