9/6/2023 3:00:00 PM | Women's Soccer
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Soccer is fresh off a home win Sunday and has won two of its past three matches. The Blue Raiders will look to continue its positive momentum Thursday night against Chattanooga at Dean A. Hayes Stadium.
Standing at 3-2-1, the Blue Raiders kick off at 6:00 p.m. against the Mocs. Thursday night's fixture will be streamed on ESPN+.
Notes and Storylines
» The Blue Raiders have not seen Chattanooga in the regular season since 1999. While the teams met in the preseason one year ago, MTSU has not played the Mocs in regular season action in the Aston Rhoden era.
» In the span of under three minutes last Thursday, Manon Lebargy converted a first half brace against Lipscomb. After finishing a deflection in the box in the 33', the Lille, France native finished a set piece off Kaitlyn Butcher in the 36' for her second goal of the match and season.
Lebargy also scored in the 80' Sunday in MTSU's 3-0 win over Cleveland State. She is the second Blue Raider to score in consecutive matches this season.
» Elizabeth Slavinsky accounted for both of MTSU's late goals Sunday against Cleveland State. After delivering a ball finished by Lebargy in the 80,' she had her own moment when heading in a corner kick in the 82.' Slavinsky's three points Sunday are the most for a Blue Raider in a match since Cambell Kivisto scored and had an assist against Belmont on August 20.
» In three of Middle Tennessee's past five fixtures, goals in the late minutes have wins. On Aug. 20 against Belmont, Kivisto scored in the 90' to eliminate any hopes for a Bruins' equalizer and clinch a 3-1 home win.
It was Eleanor Gough who was the hero Aug. 27, as the Blue Raiders knocked off Howard 1-0 in Washington, D.C. She scored in the six-yard box in the 87' minute to give MTSU a 1-0 lead that held. And clinging to a one-goal lead late against Cleveland State, Lebargy and Slavinsky each scored to give the Blue Raiders breathing room in Sunday's win.
» Head Coach Aston Rhoden enters his 22nd season at the program's helm. The Jamaica native has led the Blue Raiders to three conference championships, and carries a 200-160-38 record entering the season.
» Under Rhoden, assistant coaches Zak Davis and Hannah Hoefs each enter their second seasons with the program. Davis--a former goalkeeper at UNC-Asheville--works closely with that position group, while Hoefs, a former midfielder at Loyola (MD), has been an invaluable asset with the field players.
» Suder and Manley seek spots on all-time program career record lists in 2023.
Suder currently stands in the top 10 of numerous program goalkeeping records, including being tied for fifth in career saves (181), fourth in games started (50), fourth in games played (55) and fourth in minutes played (4,610:32).
Manley meanwhile has started in all 67 Blue Raider matches across her career. She currently stands at 4,856 consecutive minutes across 55 matches dating back to late in her freshman year. With 6,132 total minutes under her belt, she has entered the top 10 in career minutes played in program history among outfield players, and is the 12th Blue Raider to enter the 6,000 minute club.
Behind Enemy Lines
» Chattanooga comes into the match 4-1-0, with a win over CUSA foe Jacksonville State in its most recent fixture. The Mocs' only loss came at the hands of Vanderbilt on August 17.
» Sophomore F Caroline Richvalsky leads the squad with four goals and also has a pair of assists. She had a hat trick against Jacksonville State.
» Senior M Birna Johannsdottir had goals in wins over Tennessee Tech, North Alabama and Austin Peay.
» Head coach Gavin McKinney is in his ninth year at the helm of the Southern Conference program.
