Women’s tennis heads to Starkville to take on Jacksonville State and Mississippi State on Friday and Saturday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee women's tennis is set to begin the 2024 spring slate in Starkville, Miss. on Jan. 12 at 4 p.m. against newly conference foe Jacksonville State and Jan. 13 at 10 a.m. against Mississippi State.
The Blue Raiders will serve up the start of the season on the campus of Mississippi State, where they will take on Jacksonville State in their season opener. The next day, the team will take on Mississippi State to wrap up the tournament before heading back home
Head Coach Tayo Bailey-Duvall enters her sixth season at the realm of the Blue Raiders. Bailey-Duvall helped the Blue Raiders to their first undefeated season at home last season since 2015. She enters the 2024 spring season with a 54-55 (.483) overall record as a head coach at Middle Tennessee.
The team returns six players from last year: Rutuja Chaphalkar, Sana Garakani, Lilly-Sophie Schmidt, Eloise Swarbrick, Cara Szilasi and Karen Yibirin.
Four transfers joined the squad: Cassidy Mataia, Hrudaya Shah, Ilaria Sposetti and Alessia Truden. There is one true freshman of this year's team and her name is Lena Peyer.
Match One: Middle Tennessee (0-0, 0-0 CUSA) vs. Jacksonville State (0-0, 0-0 CUSA)

Match Two: Middle Tennessee (0-0, 0-0 CUSA) at Mississippi State (0-0, 0-0 SEC)
- Saturday, Jan. 13 – 10 a.m.

All-time vs. Jacksonville State
- Friday's matchup will be the second meeting all time between the two programs, MTSU leads the series 1-0. The last meeting between the two programs was in 1983.
All-time vs. Mississippi State
- Saturday's match will be the 13th meeting between the Blue Raiders and Bulldogs. Mississippi State holds a 8-4 advantage over the Blue Raiders.
