Softball drops series at Sam Houston on Saturday night

HUNTSVILLE, Texas. – Middle Tennessee softball (17-24, 5-10) lost both games of the doubleheader at Sam Houston (15-23, 4-11) on Saturday to drop the series.
Game 1 – MTSU 3, SHSU 7
Kamryn Carcich would hit her fifth home run of the season in the top of the second to give the Blue Raiders the early lead in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. The Bearkats answered quickly in the bottom half of the inning with two runs to take over the lead headed into the third.
Ansley Blevins started off the third inning with her second hit of the game and 16th of the conference season for the third most in the league. Sam Houston would extend the lead 4-1 with a two-out RBI and a bases-loaded walk.
Jesyne Espinal took over for Mary Martinez in the circle in the bottom of the fourth. Martinez allowed three earned runs in 3.0 innings of work.
Sam Houston would score for the third consecutive inning with three more in the fourth. A three-run home run stretched the lead 7-1.
Blevins third hit of the game, a solo home run would come in the top of the fifth to trim the deficit to just five-runs. The Jasper, Tenn. native leads the league with eight home runs in conference play and 11 on the season.
Claire Woods entered the game in the bottom of the fifth with the bases-loaded and held the Bearkats scoreless to keep the game at 7-2 in favor of Sam Houston.
A pair of singles started the sixth inning for the Blue Raiders by Lexi Medlock and Shelby Echols. However, the Blue Raiders would leave their 10th baserunner on of the game. Echols 45th hit on the season is the second most in CUSA while her 20th hit in conference play leads the league.
Ava Brooks would deliver a RBI on a sacrifice fly to score Tepe in the seventh inning but the Blue Raiders would fall 7-3 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
Blevins led the way offensively with three hits and a RBI on a solo home run. Carcich would also hit a solo home run for her fifth of the season.
Game 2 – MTSU 2, SHSU 5
The series finale started with Sam Houston scoring an early run in the bottom of the first to take a one-run lead.
A pair of baserunners were left on-base by the Blue Raiders in both the first and second innings. The Bearkats would add another run in the third inning on a two-out RBI double. Two more runs came in to score after a two-run home run extended the lead 4-0 headed into the fourth inning. Claire Woods would come into the game and take over in the circle for Carcich.
Medlock delivered a two-run home run to cut the lead in half in the fourth inning. Medlock's fourth home run of the season would be the only runs for MTSU in the series finale.
Sam Houston added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-out RBI double.
Tepe picked up her second hit of the game in the sixth inning to give MTSU a baserunner late in the game. Medlock would also reach on a walk, but both would be left stranded for the seventh Blue Raider baserunner left on-base.
The offense was unable to start a late game rally in the seventh inning to drop the final game of the series 5-2 at Sam Houston.
Medlock led the way offensively with two hits and two RBI for the only runs of the game by MTSU in the series finale.
Woods tossed 3.1 innings in the circle allowing just one earned run on four hits.
