MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's golf team is set to open its spring slate of tournaments this week, traveling down to Jacksonville, Fla. to take part in the Sea Best Intercollegiate. The tournament, hosted by Jacksonville University, will run January 26-27 at the San Jose Country Club.
The Lineup
Isabella Johnson once again finds herself at the top of the lineup following a strong fall season. The sophomore shot nine rounds at par or better and averaged 72.06 strokes per round to lead the team in both categories. After two runner-up finishes in the fall, she'll look to earn her first collegiate individual title in Jacksonville.
In spot two is Caroline Pardue, who had a strong start to the season but faltered towards the end. She shot a 75.69 average as the only other golfer to play in all six events, tallying three rounds at par or better.
Abbie Lee will begin her final spring competition season in the third spot after missing the opening three fall tournaments. She's got the third best stroke averaging at 76.00 and shot a career-low with her first collegiate ace at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate in October.
Ella Manley will play from the fourth spot in the spring opener. The junior competed in four tournaments in the fall, averaging 76.20 shots per 18 holes with two rounds at or below par. She won her first individual title in the fall at the Town and Country event, sharing the title with Jillian Bowman and a Tennessee Tech golfer.
Nicole Johnson rounds out the team lineup for Middle Tennessee in the five spot, having competed in four tournaments before the winter break. She last competed at the White Sands Invitational, earning a top-20 finish in the Bahamas.
Bowman is set to compete as an individual at the San Jose Country Club for her sixth competition of her junior season. She shot her first two rounds at or below par of her collegiate career in the fall and averaged 76.38 per round overall.
The Field
Middle Tennessee and host Jacksonville will be joined by two top-20 teams in No. 8 Florida and No. 16 Duke, as well as USC Upstate, Stetson, Seminole State, Daytona State, Samford, Palm Beach State and Richmond.
The Tournament
The two-day tournament will see players play two rounds on Monday and a singular final round Tuesday for its 54-hole format. The San Jose Country Club will play as a par-72 on its Donald Ross Signature 18-hole course. Originally designed in 1925, it was restored in 2020 to offer challenges and rewards for all golfers. The tournament will commence Monday with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. CT with the second round following directly after.
