MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Blue Raider women's golf team is set to play its lone February tournament this week, traveling west to take part in the Texas Golf Throwdown. The competition, hosted by Sam Houston at The Woodlands Country Club, will run February 16-17 in The Woodlands, Texas.
The Blue Raiders
Isabella Johnson, Jillian Bowman, Ella Manley, Caroline Pardue and Nicole Johnson will represent Middle Tennessee in the lineup, while Brylee Crouse will join the trip as an individual competitor.
In the last competition, the Blue Raiders finished fifth in a field of 11 teams, with Bowman and Johnson both placing T13. Johnson earned Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Week honors thanks to her performance where she tallied her 10th round at par or better this season, now ranking 6th in single season program history.
Crouse is set to compete in her first tournament of the spring season in The Woodlands. The redshirt freshman competed in four tournaments in the fall, two of them as an individual, and averaged 79.4 in those 10 rounds.
The Field
Middle Tennessee and host Sam Houston will join four Power 5 programs and 10 other collegiate programs on the course. That list includes Texas State, Cincinnati, UT Arlington, St. Thomas – Minnesota, Oral Roberts, Iowa State, Murray State, Texas A&M, Montana State, Eastern Kentucky, Nebraska, Tarleton State and Austin Peay.
The Tournament
The Texas Golf Throwdown will follow a 36-18 format to complete the 54 holes, with golfers teeing off in a shotgun start Monday to play two rounds and another shotgun start Tuesday to shoot the final round. The tournament will take place on The Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club, a course designed by Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge. The course serves as the home to the annual PGA Tour Champions Insperity Invitational and was the long-time host course of the Shell Houston Open. It is widely regarded as one of the finest courses both in the Houston area and in Texas more broadly.
