SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – Despite a great start to the Cardinal Cup, the Blue Raiders feel back to fifth place after the final round at the University of Louisville Golf Club.
Middle Tennessee compiled a 40-over 904 performance at the club. Louisville captured the title on their home course after finishing 24-over, while Memphis (+30) and Kennesaw State (+33) placed second and third, respectively. James Madison rounded out the group that beat out the Blue Raiders, tallying a 37-over.
"We just came out and struggled from the start," said head coach Chris Adams. "The other teams were making birdies."
Avery George continued a strong push to hold the Blue Raiders close to the leaders and finished with a 6-over 78 in the third round. The Cleveland, Tennessee native, hit birdies on four, six and 18, which were the only birdies that Middle Tennessee as a team had all day. George finished seventh overall with a three-round 222 6-over total.
Behind George was Emily Williams, who finished the final round with a 7-over 79 and the tournament with an 11-over 227 for 18th. Allie Knight (+12, 228), Maddie Denton (+15, 231) and Emily Miller (+17, 233) were the final three for Middle Tennessee.
