#21 Blue Raiders go two-for-two against SMU and Austin Peay in Sunday Doubleheader

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — After a slugfest on Friday night, No. 21-ranked Middle Tennessee men's tennis bounced back with a 4-1 win against SMU and a 6-1 win against Austin Peay on Sunday, Feb. 19 at the Adams Tennis Complex.
HEAD COACH JIMMY BORENDAME
"Boys played well today. I am really happy. We faced a tough SMU team earlier today. Guys came ready to play. Doubles point was really intense. We did well and that was a team last year who was top-25 team. To get that 4-1 win and finish the day with a 6-1 over Austin Peay, we had a solid day overall.We go back down to the Blue Gray. We won it last year. I am not looking at it like we are going to defend it. It is going to be a totally different tournament. We will face new opponents and 50 percent of my team is new. I am excited because we have a bandwagon of Blue Raiders coming down to support us. It should be a great event. I know we are going to battle."
In the SMU match, the Blue Raiders claimed the doubles point in dramatic fashion. On court No. 2, Pavel Motl and Stijn Slump won 6-4. No. 23-ranked Oskar Brostrom Poulsen and Francisco Rocha were down 4-6 in the tiebreak against No. 49-ranked Adam Neff and Pranav Kumar. The duo of Brostrom Poulsen and Rocha won four straight points to secure the doubles point for MTSU 7-6 (6).
In singles, No. 91 Brostrom Poulsen tallied a 6-3, 6-1 victory on court No. 3 to give the Blue Raiders a 2-0 lead. The Mustangs would take a point on court No. 5. No. 80 Slump won in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 extending the MTSU lead to 3-1. Pavel Motl defeated his SMU opponent 6-4, 6-4.
In the Austin Peay match, the Blue Raiders secured the doubles point. On court No. 3, Ondrej Horak and Shu Matsuoka tallied a 6-1 win. Brostrom Poulsen and Marcel Kamrowski picked up a 6-3 victory on court No. 1.
In singles, Baran Soyler defeated his APSU opponent 6-1, 6-0. On court No. 3, Horak won 6-1, 6-0 to give MTSU a 3-0 lead. No. 80 Slump on court No. 1 clinched the match for the Blue Raiders winning 6-3, 6-1. Kamrowski tallied a 6-4, 6-3 victory on court No. 5. The Governors took a point on court No. 6. On court No. 2, No. 91 Brostrom Poulsen capped off the doubleheader with a 6-1, 7-5 win.

"Friday was a tough lost at a packed house at the ATC against OSU. It was really big to come out here and win 4-1 and 6-1 against SMU and Austin Peay. They are two really competitive teams. We had a really good effort from all the guys. We are excited for Blue Gray. We won last year and we are excited to claim the title this year."
