Adje Records Hat Trick, Blue Raider Offense Explodes in Win Over Chicago State
9/29/2023 10:09:00 PM | Women's Soccer
That's exactly what Middle Tennessee Soccer did against the Chicago State Cougars on Friday night at Dean A. Hayes Stadium.
Seeking to extinguish a two-match losing streak—and six consecutive fixtures without a win—the Blue Raiders left absolutely no doubt they would enter the weekend with three points, and did so with an emphatic 8-0 win.
Faith Adje had a hat trick, Manon Lebargy had a brace and an assist, and the Blue Raiders sailed to numerous team and individual historical marks.
The eight goals scored by MTSU are the tied for the eighth-most in team history, and most since a win over Alabama A&M in 2013.
Idun Kvaale opened the goalscoring in the 11', the earliest any Blue Raider has scored in a match this season.
The next six goals came in a period of less than 15 minutes. Elizabeth Slavinsky scored in the middle of the 29', Lebargy finished a free kick in the 32' before Adje scored her first of three goals in the 35.'
Lebargy finished an assist from Delaney Thomas in the 38', representing Thomas' first point of the season. Adje had her second goal two minutes later in the 40' on an assist from Taijah Fraser with a high-arching shot in the top of the goal. Yana Yordanova then connected for her career goal in the 42.'
Adje would score her hat trick-sealing goal in the 53.' Hannah Murphy had the assist and her first career point on the goal.
Goalkeeper Calais Butts earned her first career start Friday night, while Emily McGrain also made her first appearance in net.
Rhoden's Roundup
"We had a good performance in our last match, and were just unlucky to not good a good result. We have a three-game homestand and wanted to start it off with a successful note. Even though it wasn't a conference match, we wanted to utilize this match as a means to help us get ready for the next home match," said head coach Aston Rhoden.
On Adje and Lebargy's individual performances: "I think it's extremely huge. Anytime you can get a brace or a hat trick, it's a good thing. The thing that stood out for me was that you had different people who scored goals, and they were well built-up goals from things that we've been working on."
Player Perspective – Faith Adje
"This week has been really tough, mentally and physically. I think that showed in today's game. I'm really proud of the team because I couldn't have done it without them. It's exciting to see my name in the record book. It's been a hard week and I've been putting a lot of work in," said Adje.
