Softball drops both games in first day of FGCU Invitational

Fort Myers, Fla. – Middle Tennessee softball (0-7) dropped both games on Friday against Delaware and Akron at the FGCU Invitational.
Game 1 – MTSU 0, Delaware 2
Delaware scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first after a two-out walk was driven in with a base-hit. Three scoreless innings kept the score 1-0 in favor of Delaware.
In the fifth inning, the Hens added to the lead with a solo homerun.
The Blue Raiders threatened in the top of the seventh getting bases loaded after Lexi Medlock led off with a single but were eventually left stranded.
Mary Martinez made her third start of the season in the circle and threw five innings allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts. Kamryn Carcich took over in the sixth to close out the game and held Delaware at two.
Game 2 – MTSU 1, Akron 2
Akron took the lead with a run in the first, but the Blue Raiders responded quickly tying the game in the second inning. Shelby Echols produced the run on a single up the middle that scored Savannah Behabetz.
Carcich held the Zips scoreless for four straight innings before they broke through with a run in the sixth to take back the lead 2-1 and hold on for the win.
Carcich threw a complete game in her third start of the season allowing just two runs on three hits.
