Blue Raiders to kickoff softball season from Leesburg, Fla. this weekend

Middle Tennessee Softball enters the program's 33rd season
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The 2025 Middle Tennessee Softball season is set to kickoff this weekend, Feb. 7-9, in Leesburg, Fla. for The Spring Games. The tournament will feature matchups vs. Louisville, Rutgers, Radford and Cleveland State. The games will be streamed on Fastpitch TV Network and fans can use code "TSGD1FAN" for 50% off. Day one (Feb. 7) of The Spring Games consists of matchups vs. Louisville at 3:00 pm CT and Rutgers at 5:30 pm CT. Day two (Feb. 8) features games vs. Radford at 12:00 pm CT and Cleveland State at 2:30 pm CT. The final day of the tournament, Feb. 9, the Blue Raiders will be taking on Radford for a second matchup with first pitch set for 9:00 am CT.
Middle Tennessee Softball is led by head coach Jeff Breeden who is entering his 13th season at the helm. Breeden has led the Blue Raiders to two Conference USA titles (2018 & 2023) and was named the NFCA 2023 Mideast Regional Coach of the Year. Under his watch, the 2023 team had one of the best seasons in program history, recording a record of 42-20 while punching their ticket to the NCAA Tournament after winning the conference tournament.
Blue Raider Notes
Louisville – MTSU holds an all-time record of 3-5 vs. Louisville with the last matchup coming in February 2015 that was won by the Blue Raiders. Louisville is led by head coach Holly Aprile who is entering her seventh season as head coach. The Cardinals have amassed 156 wins in her tenure and earned a pair of NCAA regional appearances in 2019 and 2023.
Rutgers – The Blue Raiders hold an 0-2 record vs. Rutgers in the program's history. The last matchup was played in February 2018. The Scarlet Knights are led by Kristen Butler, a former SEC Player of the Year and record-setting professional softball player in both the United States and Japan. Butler enters her seventh season as the Rutgers head softball coach in 2025 after posting back-to-back 30-win seasons. Rutgers holds a 137-153 record under Coach Butler.
Radford – MTSU holds an all-time record of 2-3 vs. Radford. Kevin Fagan enters his first season at the helm after being named the 11th head coach in the program's history. Fagan joins the Highlanders after spending the last four seasons with Division II Emmanuel where the Lions amassed a 121-96 record during his tenure.
Cleveland State – The matchup on Saturday night vs. Cleveland State will mark the first time the two programs have faced off. The Vikings are led by Amy Kyler who is entering her 7th season as the head coach. Last season, Kyler led the program to their third NCAA Tournament after winning the Horizon League Tournament for the first time in 15 years. The Vikings hold a 94-163 record with Coach Kyler at the helm.

- The 2025 Blue Raider squad features 13 new student-athletes: nine freshmen and four transfers. They are Leila Ammon, Kennedy Chatman, Tori Coffman, Addy Edgmon, Macie Harter, Lani Jones, Dimitra Milonopoulos, Zoe Milonopoulos, Lilly Pendergrast, Sabria Ritto, Jana Want, Emmaline Whitt, Avery Wynne.
- Jana Want, a Stoney Creek, Ontario native, represents Coach Breeden's first international student-athlete.
- The team features nine freshmen, two sophomores, seven juniors, three seniors and one graduate student.
- The 2025 Blue Raider softball team features student-athletes from both coasts of the country with representation from New Jersey and New York, all the way to California
- More than 50% of the team are natives of Tennessee.
- The Blue Raiders are expected to be led by Ansley Blevins, a reigning 2024 First Team All-Conference USA selection. Blevins is coming off a standout season in which she hit 14 home runs – the second most in program history. The Jasper, Tenn. native led Conference USA with 10 home runs in league play during the 2024 season.
